In-floor convectors

The unit is set into the screed flush with the floor, leaving only a decorative grille on top. Main use — panoramic windows and floor-to-ceiling glazing where there is nowhere to put a radiator.

In brief: the series choice depends on screed depth. From 65 mm — M/C, from 90 mm — S/C 90, from 110 mm — 4S, from 120 mm — S/C 120. With a DC fan the convector works as main heating, without it — as a quiet thermal curtain from the glass.

Each series is available with 1 or 2 heat exchangers (S2 / C2 / 4S2 — noticeably higher output) and in lengths 1000–3000 mm. Full output tables are in the technical catalogue.

Which series to choose by screed depth

The casing height is the main constraint. It must fit into the screed together with the layer under the unit, so the series is chosen from the actual depth, not the other way round.

When an in-floor convector is not suitable

If there is no screed and it cannot be deepened — for example, in a renovation with finished floors — there is physically nowhere to lay the casing. Then floor-standing FRH on legs or skirting BR along the wall work: the same thermal-curtain principle, without touching the floor.

The most expensive mistake is remembering the convector after the screed is poured. Redoing it for the casing is costly, so the unit dimensions are built into the design before the concrete work.

Questions & answers

Is the convector compatible with underfloor heating?

Yes. The convector cuts off the cold from the glass and reacts quickly to temperature changes, while underfloor heating provides background warmth. They are often installed together in the same room.

What is the maximum coolant temperature?

90 °C. The working range is 40–90 °C at pressures up to 10 bar, G ½" connection. A heat pump usually runs at 45/35: in Carrera's tables natural convection delivers there a third of the 85/75 output, and at 65/55 — two thirds. Output is calculated for your régime.

Does the fan make noise?

Per the datasheet, at 30% speed 19.4–24.3 dB depending on the series and length, at 100% — 40.5–52.4 dB. For a bedroom, size the output for moderate speed; the speed is regulated by the thermostat.

What screed depth is needed?

At minimum — the casing height of the series: 65 mm for M/C, 90 for S/C 90, 110 for 4S, 120 for S/C 120. The depth is built into the design before the screed is poured.
